Facts
Safe
Our solar powered sign is safe, and is designed
to run off of 12 VDC, the same voltage as most automotive systems.
In most situations, an electrical contractor is not needed for
installation. This is due to the fact that the sign uses low
voltage, rather than AC line voltage.
Quick Payback
Besides the obvious savings that the system
doesn't require you to purchase power from the grid, there are many
government rebate and tax programs that accelerate the payback
period. Talk to one of our authorized dealers who can show you your
ROI "return on investment", plus the local, state and federal
rebates and loan programs.
Cost effective
Save money on electricity costs! SunPower Signs
are low cost, reliable and low maintenance.
Frequently Asked Question
Q.) What colors are available for the panels?
A.) Our panels come in black.
Q.) What does "a-Si" stand for when used in your literature?
A.) The term "a-Si" stands for Amorphous Silicon, which is the type of film that we use.
Q.) Is "a-Si" solar environmentally friendly?
A.) The benefits of "a-Si" start with the simple fact that we use approximately 1% of the silicon that is used in typical crystalline panels, and does not contain hazardous chemicals that the “CIGS” Cadmium panels contain.
Q.) Are the panels durable?
A.) When tested for military use, these panels were shot and burned and they still produced power.
Q.) What if someone spray paints the panels?
A.) Simply use lacquer thinner to remove the paint, and wash with soap and water.
Q.) Can the panel be destroyed or easily broken?
A.) No, these panels contain no glass like the crystalline.
Q.) Why are the watts per square foot less then crystalline panels?
A.) This is a deceptive rating system; the crystalline panels are rated at approximately 25 degrees Celsius while our panels are rated at 75 degrees Celsius. The crystalline panels lose approximately 1% of their output for each degree of Celsius rise.
Q.) When talking about the temperature rating, is that the outside temperature?
A.) It is deceiving, but this is the interior temperature of the core of the panel. So while it may be 25 degrees Celsius outside, the core of the panel may be at a temperature of as much as 50 degrees Celsius.
Q.) What happens on days of low sunlight?
A.) We start producing power in as little as 4% ambient sunlight, so while the crystalline are not producing, we are.
Q.) How long will the sign light?
A.) There are three factors that determine this. Power per hour required for the lights, Square footage of solar that can be applied to the sign, and the number of hours of direct sun for the region.
Q.) How long will the batteries last?
A.) Typical life cycle of a battery is 2250 to 2625 depth of discharge cycles on our base drain rate, which would prospectively give us 6.16 yrs to 7.19 years. Extreme heat or cold weather conditions can decrease the life of the batteries.
Q.) Can solar work with HO florescent lights?
A.) Yes, but the batteries are DC and the HO lamp ballast needs AC. This reduces the hours of illumination by 30% due to the inverter D/C to A/C. We recommend 12 volt D/C LED lighting.
