KS. CITY HALL
SunPower Sign, Inc. is happy to help Greensburg, KS, be a little greener by donating this stand-alone solar signage.
Mankato, MN. – SunPower Sign, Inc., a specialty design and solar solutions provider, collaborated with Green City Signs, LLC, Green Light Initiative and SignHouse, Inc. to produce a new solar-powered sign for the New City Hall in Greensburg, KS. This stand-alone sign eliminates the need for large photovoltaic panels and instead integrates a special amorphous silicon solar film into the sign itself. This film is provided by SunPower Sign’s parent company, Green Energy Concepts Group, Inc., based in Mankato, MN.
The objective was to create a stand alone solar powered sign that was not only efficient, but also aesthetically pleasing. With the use of GECG’s solar film, the production of electrical power begins at as little as 4% ambient light. SunPower Sign’s off-grid system eliminates electricity and maintenance costs by using energy from the sun’s rays. Our custom designed controllers and Green Light Initiative‘s energy efficient Light Emitting Diodes [LED’s], create vast opportunities for signage advertising in previously unobtainable areas where electricity supply is non-existent or cost prohibitive. SunPower Sign is designed to be a completely off-grid solution and requires no line voltage.
Rather than dig trenches, pull wire, add a new breaker and get an electrical permit to supply power to distant signs, a solar sign is a cost-effective and green solution. By implementing this solar solution into the design of a sign, the costs of installing and operating a sign become significantly reduced; eliminating utility bills, qualifying for tax credits and energy grants and reducing the users’ carbon footprint.
A solar sign is a self-contained system which powers the sign directly from the sun, stores the power in batteries and disperses it, to power the LED lighting on a controlled basis. The sign will be a standalone off the grid system. With our design, there is very little maintenance required. The system is designed with an average life of five years for batteries, fifteen years for the LED and twenty five years on the solar film (Based on ten hours daily run time). Other types of signs require changing the bulbs and ballast every few years. This is a dramatic saving on both labor and materials.

Date: Friday, February 19th
Time: Erection of the sign will begin at approximately 10:00 AM.
