The Concept

The concept was to create a stand alone solar powered sign that was not only efficient, but also aesthetically pleasing. With the use of our film, we start producing power in as little as 4% ambient light. SunPower Sign’s off grid system eliminates electricity and maintenance costs by using energy from the sun’s rays. Our custom designed controllers and energy efficient Light Emitting Diodes "LEDs", open up the possibility of flexible advertising in previously unobtainable areas where electricity supply is non-existent or cost prohibitive in previous applications. SunPower Sign is designed to be a completely off grid solution and requires no line voltage.

The Solution

SunPower Sign, Inc. developed a new solar sign solution. This solution eliminates the need for large crystalline panels and instead integrates new flexible thin film solar panels seamlessly to fit the original design intent. This application is a breakthrough in solar signage. We are now able to construct signs, while keeping the original design intent intact and providing our clients the optimal green alternative to their signage needs. A solar sign is a self-contained system which powers the sign directly from the sun, stores the power in batteries and disperses it to power the lights on a controlled basis. The sign will be a standalone off the grid system. The thin film solar panel array charges the battery during daylight hours and the battery supplies power to the loads when needed. The charge controller terminates the charging when the battery reaches full charge. The load center may contain meters to monitor system operation and necessary fuses to protect wiring in the event of a malfunction or short circuit in the sign. These thin film solar panels are the most reliable, durable, and lightweight of its kind on the market. The thin film solar panels are made with professional marine-grade components and rugged UV-stabilized materials. They perform well in diverse environments ranging, from the hot desert sun to freezing arctic temperatures.

Zero Carbon Foot Print - Zero Power From The Grid  

We use a lightweight, thin solar film that is unobtrusive and not as noticeable as the standard hard panel crystalline. Environmentally Friendly

The solar panels used on the sign have 1% of the silicon that the typical crystalline panel contains. The sign produces no emissions and qualifies for LEED points.

Low Maintenance

With our design, there is very little maintenance required. The system is designed with an average life of five years for batteries, fifteen years for the LED and twenty five years on the solar film (Based on ten hours daily run time). Other types of signs require changing the bulbs and ballast every few years.

Cost Effective

Rather than dig trenches, pull wire, add a new breaker and get an electrical permit to supply power to distant signs, a solar sign is a cost-effective and green solution.  Save money on electricity costs; SunPower Sign is designed to be a completely off grid solution and requires no line voltage.
